Nestled just a 35-minute drive from the city, the Canberra wine region boasts 140 vineyards and over 40 wineries, making it an ideal getaway. The region's winemaking roots trace back to the 1840s, experiencing a resurgence in the 1970s thanks to meticulous research by CSIRO scientists. These efforts revitalised the industry, focusing on cool-climate varieties and traditional methods, resulting in distinct and high-quality vintages.

Today, the Canberra wine region comprises three distinct areas: Murrumbateman and Yass, Canberra and Hall, and Bungendore, Wamboin, Gundaroo, Lake George, and Collector. This diverse terroir, with altitudes ranging from 300 to 800 meters, offers a unique blend of soil types and climates, perfect for growing an array of grape varieties. Visitors can sample everything from Riesling and Chardonnay to Shiraz and Tempranillo, experiencing the full spectrum of flavors the region has to offer.

Beyond the vineyards, the Canberra wine region provides a rich sensory experience. Despite its relative youth as a wine-producing area, the region has quickly become known for its premium cool-climate wines, particularly its award-winning Riesling and Shiraz. With a blend of tradition, innovation, and natural beauty, the Canberra wine region offers a truly memorable experience for wine enthusiasts.
